Evolution by Natural Selection

Evolution by natural selection is the process by which living things gradually change over many generations because individuals with traits better suited to their environment tend to survive and reproduce more successfully. Those helpful traits get passed to offspring, so they become more common in the population over time, while less useful traits fade away. This slow accumulation of favorable traits can eventually produce dramatic differences, giving rise to new species.
