Human Memory

Human memory is the mental system that lets us take in information, store it over time, and bring it back to mind when needed—much like a filing system for experience. Psychologists usually split it into stages: encoding (getting information in), storage (holding onto it), and retrieval (pulling it back out). Memory isn't a single unit either; it includes short-term memory, which holds small amounts of information briefly, and long-term memory, which can preserve facts, skills, and personal experiences for years or even a lifetime.
